BAD HABITS: 5 min. secret to stop wasting time & start living purposefully.
It’s 22:02 on October 29 and as usual, I’m staring at my phone and doom scrolling.
Hoping to find something that inspires me to wake up tomorrow morning and finally start (again) to live my life more fully. At least, or I always hope, that I find something that enlighten me to do better, to live better, to cook better, to dress better, to be better.
Every night. Same story. Every morning same beginning. No change.
As time passes by and 2024 slowly turning into 2025, I have been watching my daily habits being unchanged (by me and only me,of course) especially those bad habits that do me no good, like phone, like internet and like we all know it – social media.
The problem is not the phone. The problem is my time and how I spend it.
I work 9-5 job, so when I talk about time and how I spend it, I mean every minute before and after the office hours. The fact is, I need to earn the living. period.
Just because I get home after 5pm and have one job (good job, grateful for that!), I still can’t stand the idea that this is it. That this is what defines me and my life (because hours create a day and days create a week and weeks create a life). With 9-5 job I am only able to eat a dinner, exercise or go for a walk, watch a tv and end up in a bed at 10pm sharp, because I am dead tired. (And I don’t even have kids??!!)
I enjoy zillions things besides my job, but have no time nor energy to pursue them. Or I thought. One of them is writing.
Do I really have no time to pursue 1 hour of journaling or blogging every evening before bed or am I just lazy and scrolling through my phone, tv or Netflix (my life!) for the last 4 hours of my evenings?
I still hold my phone, but am writing instead.
So my personal experiment works. So far 20 minutes in and instead of staring on instagram I have been writing, I feel calmer and even though this piece of blog post is not of much worth, I feel good about myself (and that’s what we all want!).
This is good. 5 min. of doing something you love is better than never getting to do it.
It is 22:20 and I am about to press the “publish” button. But first, what is a point? I can’t fall asleep without the point to this content piece.
10 seconds later…
Yes! I think I got it. It is never too late to start anything you want (surprise!) It does not need to be perfect, it does not need to earn you money or make you famous or whatever.
As long as the 5 minutes of doing something you love, makes you feel fulfilled, grounded and content with yourself for today, then it’s worth it. No?
There are zillion things I don’t have a mental motivation to do, just because I am a perfectionist and I want to do them either 150% or nothing.
So just like with this blog post, I will try to take 20% at the time, just to finally do it.
Celery smoothie- jesus, just do it.
I was waiting years to become the IT girl who drinks the healthiest smoothie once a day. Never got to it. Well, tomorrow I try to.
Or maybe Sunday.
And the pilates cover picture? Don’t let me get started on that! The blog post on its own. Coming soon.
Until then, dream big, take small steps and mostly, try to do things that make you feel good even if it 5 takes minutes.
22:27, I did my 25 min. of “me time” and feeling much better.
What is it that you would like to do that makes you feel good about yourself, but waiting for the “perfect moment” to start?
